When Despicable Me first aired, the whole world fell in love with the minions. It’s just how they’re animated; with their funny reactions and silly gibberish sounds, our hearts were taken away.
To the surprise of all, the sounds and words the minions utter throughout the movies are not entirely gibberish.
According to the directors, Kyle Balda and Pierre Coffin, the language that the minions speak has actual meanings and makes sense.
While working on the movie, the two directors constructed this language and called it “Minionese”.
How Did They Come Up with It?
Balda and Coffin managed to extract vocabulary from other existing languages, like English, Spanish and French; and adding funny phonetics and weird sounds to these words, they finally came up with the language we hear on the movies.
Of course, the language itself is not that developed.
You can learn and attempt to utter a few sentences among friends; but it’s not something you can actually use to communicate with others.
It would be fun to learn a few sayings here and there to be a secret code among loved ones.
Bet you didn’t know that much about the Minions, did you?
